The following handouts were given out in the lectures. They are in PDF-Format, you will need the free Acrobat reader in order to read and print them. It is very likely that Acrobat is already installed on your computer.
The following list contains links to the handouts of the viewgraphs. They are already formatted such that two viewgraphs fit one A4 page:
- 27 Sep: Handout 01 (2.1MB)
- 28 Sep: Handout 02 (1.4MB)
- 05 Oct: Handout 03 (0.4MB)
- 07 Oct: Handout 04 (0.4MB)
- 18 Oct: Handout 05 (0.7MB)
- 19 Oct: Handout 06 (0.2MB)
- 21 Oct: Handout 07 (0.4MB)
- 26 Oct: Handout 08 (0.3MB)
- 04 Oct: Questions and solutions for the subjects covered in week 1.
- 12 Oct: Questions and solutions for the subjects (mainly) covered in week 2.
- 19 Oct: Questions and solutions for the subjects (mainly) covered in week 3 (Synchrotron radiation).
- 26 Oct: Questions and solutions for the subjects (mainly) covered in weeks 4 and 5 (Comptonization).
- Detectors (and solution). Note that this question is rather short, and would likely form part of a somewhat larger question.
- Accretion and motion of charged particles (and solution)
As usual, I am thankful for any feedback on these handouts. Please tell me any typos you find such that I can correct them.
Errata:
- 2006-05-21: The solutions to the homework of week 4 have now been posted. I apologise for the problem - this is the first time such a thing has happened to me in 7 years of teaching!
- 2006-05-20: Sometime in the past 2 weeks I must have overwritten the solution to the homework of week 4 with an older version, so the solutions are incomplete. The missing parts (q.2 and 3) are straightforward, though. I will retype the solutions ASAP.
- 2006-05-11: An extra "c" creeped into eqs. 6.10 and 6.21 which was caused by me forgetting to convert from the cgs to the mks system. Also, Eqs. 6.10 and 6.11 had a capital Omega instead of little omega. Thanks to yet another friendly person revising the notes to point this out. The online notes have been changed accordingly.
- 2006-05-06: As pointed out by a friendly student, the homework for week 01 contained a typo in Eq. (s2.6) of its solutions and the homework for week 03 contained a typo in Eq. (s1.9). Both are fixed in the files linked to above.
- 2006-05-01: Equation 4.4 of the lectures contained a typo which has been corrected in the online notes (but not in the PDFs of the handouts).
- 2006-04-25: As pointed out by a friendly student, there were typos in the originally distributed solutions to question2/week 02 (eq. s2.3 and s2.4 and some numerical values) and in question 2/week03, where the numerical value of N in s2.1 was wrong. As a result, all numerical values depending on N were off. The above contains links to the corrected version of the solutions.
